Risk profile
RTP vs volatility: what is the difference?
RTP is the long-term payout percentage. Volatility is the shape of the ride. Two slots can have similar RTP values but feel completely different because one pays smaller wins more often while the other concentrates more value in rare features. That is why slot records should show both fields near the top of the page.
Examples
High RTP high volatility slots
A slot can have an attractive payout number and still be difficult for short sessions. Gates of Olympus, Book of Dead and Bonanza Megaways are useful examples because the headline percentage has to be read beside bonus features, multiplier potential and uneven results.
Decision aid
How bankroll risk changes the RTP decision
| Profile | RTP reading | Volatility reading |
|---|---|---|
| Low volatility | Still compare percentage. | Usually steadier, lower ceiling. |
| Medium volatility | Useful middle ground. | Can suit broader comparison pages. |
| High volatility | Percentage is only the start. | Expect sharper swings and feature-led value. |
